In Situ. – Light Night Liverpool

Good Afternoon!

The latest from my creative journey…..

I was asked a couple of months ago to be involved in this and I’m made up to be included in the commissions for part of tonight’s Light Night Liverpool.

In writing a song for ‘In Situ‘ I wrote ‘Faith on Hope st.‘ to go with the suitcases installation  (A Case History)  and surrounding area on Hope st./Mount st.

I’ve had some good / bad / drunk / sober / hilarious and inspirational times in the area…so there was plenty of inspiration to draw from, such a mixed bag and important area of the City.

All of the tracks for the project are downloadable for people now ready to go on an audio tour around Liverpool this evening.  People will be meeting at 9pm, Anglican Cathedral tonight and experiencing the expressions of local musicians to evoke the chosen places around the city.

In Situ.  Audio downloads

Please, also download the audio even if you can’t make this evening and would just like to indulge in some Liverpool inspired songwriting!

Folkscene & Bluebird Cafe comp!

A couple of weeks ago I was invited to go to Radio Merseyside and record an hour-long interview with Liverpool harp legend and all round good ‘un Stan Ambrose for his show Folkscene.  I always have a great and interesting chat with Stan on creativity and songwriting.

Here’s the link to playback for the next 3 weeks.  After that I will add it to my Soundcloud account..

And and and…

I have also managed to be picked as one of the 20 songwriters invited to go to group songwriting workshops with visiting Nashville songwriters and music industry execs on their visit to Bluecoat, Liverpool for The Bluebird Cafe event on 29th August.

Awesomely creative…The Cake Kitschen

This is a bit of an artistically respectful and recommendation – type bloggage on my part…

It was recently my Mum’s 60th birthday and having seen some examples of handmade cakes courtesy of Jo Shelbourne aka The Cake Kitschen I was very interested in her making something to impress my family for such an occasion.  The result is as the pics below and they tasted awesome!  My mum used to make cakes like this when I was a kid and she was ridiculously impressed by her knitting biker AND matching cupcakes, a crafty morsel, which, incidentally ended up looking a little bit like a car crash at the end of the night…:) but it tasted gooood!

If you’re looking for handmade artistic creative cakes I seriously recommend checking Jo’s stuff out. Check out the FACEBOOK page or give her a shout.  This is the good stuff I tell ya. Local, handmade!

On the music front I have a gig coming up this Thursday (18th) at Mo’niques in Liverpool with the Kevin Critchley Outfit and Kaya….

Play guitar…eat cake… x

May Day MAY DAY!

Since my last blog (shamedly over a month ago) my life has been infused with a many varied contributions, perfect!  From playing in shop windows for Good Vibrations Mag (Check the vid)  to co-mentoring teenage band project ‘Girls into Rock’ with the most chilled-out girls ever! Check out their page THE DILEMMAS.  Inspiring.

Summer seems to have come and gone again all within the month of April. What can I say, my parents are currently in the USA en route to Hawaii….in Liverpool it rains 🙂

Over the last month I’ve done a fair few gigs including supporting Ruarri Joseph,  ‘Smiles for Japan’ charity gig and ‘Insurrection’ for NERVE Magazine (check out the live review and interview from this gig), I’ve also met some great local artists and musicians.  A couple of days ago after my International Pop Overthrow gig at The Cavern Pub  I had relayed to me post gig an audience members comment about my playing….’she’d put Robbie Williams out of a job’.  Brilliant. That’s a first time comment for me.  Bet Robbie’s scared.

Got some fab gigs coming up over the next couple of months. I’m also toying with Europe. Not in a malicious way,  just to visit and do some playing…..

Lets not leave it so long next time!

Over and OUT!

Jo x
